Dance Academy!

We're up in Northwest Spain this week, and spent the morning visiting the Camino de Santiago. It is a longstanding pilgrimage site that ends at a cathedral in the center of town. All year, millions of people walk along the path, many for over a month, and arrive to the cathedral where Saint James visited, and may have been buried. It was really interesting to see people traveling the last few kilometers of the path. We walked the last 5km of the path, but spoke with several people who had been on the trail for weeks. One couple began their trek in Normandy, France. Once we reached the city center we attended mass with all those who had finished their pilgrimage today. It was a wonderful experience to witness the faith and sacrifice of so many people who took significant time and effort to embark on, and complete their pilgrimage. Our cute little group took a picture at the beginning and the end of our walk, and somehow it turned into a new nickname, and some awesome posing. We have

$1,000

If I got one thousand dollars mailed to me then I know exactly what I would want to buy. First, I would buy a one hundred dollar drone, then I would buy plane tickets to Chicago for one hundred dollars and once I got there I would go down to the nutella cafe and buy all of their nutella gelato for about fifty dollars and put it in a cooler that costs fifty dollars and then buy nutella with my name on it. Then I would buy an orange juice machine that I just barely checked the price and five hundred ninety eight dollars. With the last couple of dollars I would buy two packages of oreos and donate the rest to charity. I would play with the drone until my birthday and at my birthday the orange juice machine would be sitting by the counter full of oranges and there would be all of the nutella gelato on the counter ready to eat. I think it would be great if I got $1000 to spend on whatever I wanted to.

My Giant Box

One sleepy Summer morning I wake up to the sun shining on my face. I get out of bed and stretch. Suddenly I realized that today was the first day of Summer! I skipped up the stairs and heard the doorbell ring. Ding-dong! I opened the door to see a ginormous brown box. The top and sides were bulging. It must of been 4 feet by 4 feet! On the top of the box a note read: How would you like to take a year off and enjoy yourself?-Your Vacation Manager . I hauled the the box into the living room and tore off the duct tape. Inside was filled with the following. A map of the world pinned to a cork board with 10 red pins: 1. The Usa, 2. Canada, 3.Alaska, 4.Hawaii, 5. Mexico, 6. Bahamas, 7. South America, 8.Europe, 9. Egypt, and 10. China. There were plane tickets, train tickets, rented cars. And there was enough for me, my family, my aunts and uncles, my cousins, and my grandparents. It even included a little hook you would hang around your ear for everyone that would translate what you and othe

the giant box

If a giant box arrived at my doorstep then I would carry it into my room without anyone noticing me. I would grab some scissors and cut the tape around the box. Inside it there was a box, then a box then a weird VR helmet. "What, what is it"? When I picked it up there was a miniature drone under it. I put the helmet on and then a sudden voice came in, it said "Welcome to free flight AR.09612  © 3024 , connect to drone".  My mind was blown, it wasn't 3024, was it? I ran up stairs and looked at what year it was but when I checked it said that it was only 2020. I ran back downstairs and I looked around and found the drone in the box, I pressed a button on the drone and it turned off the helmet said "power off" and then they both turned off. I pressed it again and the helmet said "power on". Then I pressed a button and then the helmet said "instant kill on", then the drone scanned my room and the helmet said "no enemies detected&qu

Summer or Winter

Image
My prompt today was about whether Summer or Winter was better. Well, the answer is Summer. No question about it. This is why. Number one, Summer is a time when kids don't have to worry about school and are free to explore and develop talents. Number two, Summer is much warmer than winter so you don't have to worry about you or your family getting sick from the cold. And number 3, when it's warm outside kids are more likely to go to the park, or on a walk, or play in the backyard and will also stay outside longer. These are some reasons why I think Summer is better than Winter.         School teaches you many valuable things that you will use the rest of your life but it is nice to have a break every once in a while. Summer is a chance for kids to catch up on lost sleep, hang out with friends you don't see very often, and visit or spend time with relatives. Like un-stringing a bow, summer lets kids relax and let go of tension. Then by the time school comes bac

laser balloons!

Image
After watching a video about lasers and balloons I learned a really interesting fact, A laser can pop every color of balloon expect white balloons! The laser will bounce off the white coloring and illuminate the inside of the balloon. It looks really cool when other color balloons pop. Red pops really easy, and so does orange. Yellow causes about a third of a second of resistance. Green causes half a second of resistance, when turquoise pops it stays for about 1 second then makes a super loud pop. Blue is pretty good, it stays in front of the laser for 3 seconds. Black is really easy, but white will just reflect the light, not absorb the light from the laser so it does not pop. A laser is a form of concentrated light that forms a beam in the direction that you point it in, it keeps on going until it hits a solid surface. I think that why different color balloons pop quicker than others is because some colors reflect more light than others.

Bubbles...and more bubbles

This year the RPS announced a contest to be "The Science Photographer of the Year" in order to showcase some of nature's most incredible features. The winners will be anounced on October 7. This picture shows the unique structures of bubbles. According to Dominic Retch, "Bubbles want to optimize space and minimize their surface area for a given volume of air." The bubbles gravity makes the walls at the top thinner and the walls at the bottom thicker.
